Many gyms require clean shoes worn only indoors. Pack a separate pair.

Some facilities restrict visible tattoos. Policies vary — ask, or cover up with sleeves.

Wipe benches and machines after every use. Spray and cloths are usually nearby.

Phone calls on the training floor are generally frowned upon. Step out to talk.

Many gyms sell day passes; some ask for ID or a short registration first.

Bring your own or rent one. Some gyms ask you to lay it on benches.
